Overall Purpose of the Position:
The position, which is primarily based at an approved Community Health Centre in Kraaifontein, is an integral part of the research team, working closely together with relevant stakeholders to identify possible suitable volunteers to participate on all active trials. The role ensures an adequate supply of research participants to meet or exceed enrolment expectations within the given trial timelines.
Key Performance Areas (KPAs) & Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Ensuring thorough knowledge of study objective and the eligibility criteria to inform clinic staff of research study and relevant criteria
- Familiarising self with, and implementing, relevant TASK Standard Operating Procedures applicable to the position
- Obtaining and reviewing NHLS results on a daily basis to identify potential study participants
- Summarising and highlighting the applicable enrolment criteria in layman’s terms to the possible participant / volunteer in order to ascertain willingness to participate
- Able to make a preliminary selection on the obvious inclusion / exclusion criteria by questioning the consenting volunteer / possible participant
- Establishing literacy level of possible participant in order to plan in advance for a witness or translator to be present during informed consent process, if needed
- Documenting the reason for possible participant not eligible to participate in the study
- Communicating the referring information and details of the possible participant to the site
- Requesting / obtaining copies of the necessary documentation from the clinic to confirm eligibility and with volunteer’s permission
- Confirming pick up-date and time of screening participants, if applicable
- Liaising with clinic staff regarding the status of their patient/s participating in a study (i.e., screen failure and the reason; randomisation and possible duration of stay)
- Following up on possible participant regarding starting of standard of care treatment where applicable and keeping clinic informed
- Supporting the clinic staff and building interpersonal relationships
- Conducting home visits to follow up on participants were indicated
- Completing administrative tasks on a daily basis, (i.e. Logs, referrals and attendance registers)
- Representing the company professionally by ensuring that uniforms are neat and tidy and wearing them from Monday to Thursday each week
- Assisting the clinic with administrative tasks once all recruitment tasks have been completed for the day
- Being available on the TASK Cell Phone during working hours
- Assisting with Community Outreaches on weekends and public holidays, where necessary
- Performing other, related tasks, such as ad-hoc administration/data capturing, and/or assisting at other locations, such as TASK HQ (Parow), as requested by manager from time to time
- While the position is based at Bloekombos Clinic, the incumbent may be required to work at or relocate to other approved facilities upon request
Ideal Requirements
- Matric
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Valid GCP (Good Clinical Practice) certificate
- Able to acquire knowledge and a basic understanding of the diseases being recruited for, along with the relevant terminology.
- Some experience working in a health care environment and ideally with participant screening and recruiting
- Ability to read and understand protocols and study documentation
- Ability to explain research information and terminology in layman’s terms
- Valid driver’s license (Advantageous)
