Overall Purpose of the Position:
The IT Support Specialist is responsible for providing technical support and maintaining the organisation’s IT infrastructure, systems, devices, networks, and Microsoft 365 environment across TASK sites. The role ensures the availability, security, and optimal performance of technology resources to support business operations and clinical research activities.
Working closely with the IT Manager, the incumbent provides first-, second-, and third-line support to users, administers Microsoft 365 services, maintains network and server infrastructure, and assists with the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of IT systems and services.
Key Performance Areas (KPAs) & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
User Support and Service Delivery
- Provide 1st, 2nd and 3rd line technical support to users through on-site, telephonic and remote support channels.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, and Microsoft 365-related issues
- Perform root cause analysis on major incidents and implement preventative measures
- Maintain and administer IT service requests and incidents within agreed service levels
- Provide user training and guidance on Microsoft 365 applications and IT best practices
Microsoft 365 Administration
- Administer and support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and related applications
- Manage Microsoft 365 licensing, user provisioning, permissions, and access controls
- Administer Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), including user accounts, security groups, Multifactor Authentication (MFA), and conditional access policies
- Manage endpoint devices using Microsoft Intune and related endpoint management solutions
- Support Microsoft 365 security, compliance, and data governance initiatives
Network Administration
- Install, configure, maintain, and support LAN, WAN, wireless, VPN, and VoIP infrastructure
- Administer firewalls, network security solutions, switches, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP services
- Monitor network performance and resolve connectivity issues
- Ensure the security, availability, and reliability of network infrastructure
Infrastructure and Security Management
- Maintain QNAP NAS and storage infrastructure
- Conduct daily server, network, and security monitoring and diagnostics
- Manage backup and disaster recovery processes to ensure business continuity
- Perform hardware upgrades, system enhancements, and resource optimisation
- Manage operating system deployments and workstation configurations
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of information security controls aligned with ISO/IEC 27001 and organisational requirements
- Liaise with external service providers, vendors, and support partners
Documentation and Compliance
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, work instructions, policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and asset registers
- Maintain accurate records of systems, licences, backups, and infrastructure changes
- Participate in audits and compliance activities as required
- Perform any other IT-related duties as required by management
Ideal Requirements
- National Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Administration, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Systems Administration, Network Administration, IT Infrastructure Support, or a similar role
- Experience providing 1st, 2nd and 3rd line technical support
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
- Experience with Microsoft Intune, endpoint management, and Microsoft 365 user, licence, and security administration, including Microsoft Defender and Purview
- Experience administering Windows desktop and server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP
- Knowledge of Linux server administration and virtualisation technologies, including Hyper-V
- Experience with network administration, including LAN/WAN, VPNs, Wi-Fi, VLANs, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and firewall management
- Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions, preferably Veeam Backup & Restore
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across hardware, software, networking, and cloud-based systems
- Willingness to travel between sites
- Working knowledge of QNAP NAS, Microsoft SQL Server, and VoIP technologies (advantageous)
- Knowledge of information security principles and standards, including ISO 27001 (advantageous)
- Experience working with Azure services and resources (advantageous)
